Frederick County, Maryland’s famed and fabled Greek Festival returns today, May 7, for a multi-day run spanning all weekend. Made possible by the Greek community of Sts. Peter & Paul Greek Orthodox Church on 7th Street, this annual tradition invites folks everywhere to join in the free, festive fun. What’s better is that you don’t have to be Greek, as all are welcome!
Even if Greek culture, customs, and cuisine are generally “Greek” to you, this welcoming event provides the perfect opportunity to get schooled. And who doesn’t love a phenomenal food feast at its finest?
Featured foods will include Gyros, Souvlaki, Spanakopita, Loukoumades, Baklava, Koulourakia, and so much more. In addition to the previously mentioned culinary classics, the Taverna setup will feature a selection of imported wines, beers, and other lavish libations from Greece. Even ZYTHOS, a Greek-style draft, will be available. Kudos to Brewer’s Alley for recreating this special for the occasion!
In addition to great Greek gastronomy, the coming days will bring about a slew of participating vendors. The Greek Agora Marketplace setup, for example, is where you will find authentic Greek goods, jewelry, art, icons, and so much more.
There will also be ongoing giveaways and demos. All offerings are fun and family-friendly, with all ages, interests, and hospitality kept first and foremost on the ongoing agenda.
Entertainment will include live, ongoing Greek music to carry folks throughout their explorations of the event. Traditional dance performances will be given by kids and adults alike at various times. As a bonus, special Greek dance lessons will also be offered to any and all who are interested!
Father John Bullock will also be conducting Church tours at select, varying times over the course of the festival’s run. Specific dates and times are to be announced.
For more than 30 years, Greeks and non-Greeks alike have made this annual event one of Frederick’s most popular events for families seeking free, fun entertainment. Consider coming out and being a part of this year’s festivities yourself!
The Frederick Greek Festival will be held rain or shine at Sts. Peter & Paul Greek Orthodox Church from May 7 through 9, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., and on May 10, between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. Following the event, Gyro Days will continue from May 11 to 17 with the same hours (Sunday closing at 6 p.m.).
