As is always the case this time of year, folks throughout the greater DMV area are getting pumped up about pumpkins. Fortunately, there’s no shortage of awesome autumnal destinations to head to for pumpkins aplenty and all your other fall fixings. One family-friendly favorite that’s been divvying out the delights of the season for many decades now is Butler Orchard.
Located in Germantown, Maryland, Butler Orchard has been a fan-favorite farm staple of the surrounding region for more than 70 years and counting. The farm was established back in 1950 by George and Shirley Butler and remains a multi-generational family-owned operation to this day.
An attraction in and of itself, Butler Orchard has garnered community renown for hosting several seasonal festival events on its grounds over the years. Some of their most notable offerings include Bunnyland, which always coincides with Easter holiday celebrations, their Sunflower Spectacular in late summer, and what is perhaps their most widely renowned annual celebration—the Pumpkin Festival.
This year’s event marks a 45-year milestone as a community mainstay and anticipated annual attraction. Festivities are ongoing now through November 2, and as always, promise a wide-ranging array of delights to take in throughout the beloved festival’s run. General admission includes access to the acclaimed pick-your-own-pumpkins patch, hayrides, Hilltop Hop Jump Pads, playing on the playground, jumping in the hayloft, Barn Buddies (resident animal visits), getting lost in their Twisted Corn Maze, the straw maze, fun in the corn pool, plunging down the giant slides, corn hole games, pedal tractors, the Spiderweb, and live music when it is taking place. Add-on delights that come at an additional cost include the widely popular Pumpkin Cannon, pony rides, face painting, mini diggers, and more.

Many folks opt to drive to the pumpkin patch directly. There are also options to shop pre-picked pumpkins via their onsite pumpkin yard and festival market. The latter also carries a range of Butler Orchard products and other goods.
