The spooky season brings forth myriad opportunities for dressing up in creatively coordinated costumes, trick-or-treating at your favorite creepy (or cute) destination, and scaring yourself silly with any number of thrilling haunted attractions that pop up this time of year. All of the above boast frightful fun, while some selections serve a dual purpose of garnering support for a worthy cause, organization, or notable nonprofit. Throughout the state of Delaware, you’ll find several such options that fit the bill in the latter category. Mark your calendars: here are four frightful and delightful events with a cause happening in Delaware this month.

Brews, Boos, & Broomsticks
This Halloween fundraiser, hosted by Revelation Craft Brewing, will take place on Saturday, October 17, from noon to 4 p.m., with some events starting at 11 a.m. All are invited to come out for a day full of frightful fun, marked by costume contests for adults and kids alike (and pets), a fall artisan market, a Creepy Crawl 5K race & Monster Mile Walk, and loads of other activities including face painting, a petting zoo, and ongoing live entertainment. And of course, there will be a lofty lineup of food vendors to keep you fueled throughout the day. All funds raised during the event benefit the Tidemark Foundation, supporting local school nurses and the continued quest of distributing aid to children who need it most.
Events will be taking place at Revelation Craft Brewing, located at 413 S. Bedford Street, Georgetown. Visit the events link on the website for more details.

Boo at the Zoo and Sip & Stroll
Boo at the Zoo at Brandywine Zoo is back for spooky season, starting Friday, October 16, and running through Sunday, October 18. Don your best costume and come on out to the ongoing celebration, which will occur between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. on all three days. Collect candy, take part in a costume parade, and mingle with the zoo’s own resident Mascot, Ringo.

Another zoo-based event will take place during the early evening hours of 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on October 22. It’s the highly anticipated return of the Halloween-themed Sip & Stroll. Although initially celebrating local craft beer, this family-friendly engagement doesn’t shy away from providing for the under-21 attendees with a variety of alternate vittles and exciting on-site activities to boot. There will even be two costume contests: one for kids (under 18) and one for adults.
Proceeds from activities taking place at Brandywine Zoo go towards supporting the zoo, its resident creatures, and all of its ongoing endeavors. Attending one or both of these events is an excellent way to enjoy the season and gives new meaning to the term “party animal” in the most literal sense.
Brandywine Zoo is located at 1001 North Park Drive, Wilmington. Visit the Zoo’s event page to find out more.
