Get ready for the highly anticipated return of a crafty quintessential tradition taking place this weekend in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania. It’s the one and only Pocono State Craft Festival, a mainstay annual event held every August for four decades. Hosted by the Pocono Arts Council, the featured festival remains the most celebrated premier arts and crafts festival in the Poconos.
The festival will run today and tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., on location at the quaint Quiet Valley Living Historical Farm. Originally established back in the 1700s, the farm remained in active, working use well into the 20th century. Today, Quiet Valley serves to educate, engage, and inspire visitors through interpretative cultural and historic programs and hands-on demonstrations. The farm site has been faithfully co-hosting the Pocono State Craft Festival for the last decade.
More than 60 juried artisans of varying distinctions will be featured at this year’s happening, all ranging in diverse talents and interests. From traditional handmade crafts to fine art in various media, from personal care products crafted by small business entrepreneurs to lavish presentations of artisanal foods, the Pocono State Craft Festival has it all.
Quiet Valley’s own classic crowd-pleasing wood-fired stone-baked bread will be on sale throughout the weekend as well. So be sure to save some room!
In addition to artistic and crafty creativity, expect to be treated to stellar entertainment in many other formats. Also take note that live music will keep the rhythm and pace happy and hopping throughout the weekend-long run by some of the region’s most enthralling performers. Quiet Valley’s own residential historic buildings will also be open for touring throughout the two-day run, with interpreters on location leading living history demonstrations.
Participating crafters at the Pocono State Craft Festival are part of the Pocono chapter of the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen. Chartered in 1979, the group consists of artisans, artists, and those who show a deep appreciation for fine craft.
The Pocono State Craft Festival supports the activities of the following three nonprofits: The Pocono Arts Council, Quiet Valley Living Historical Farm, and the Pocono chapter of the PA Guild of Craftsmen. Proceeds from this weekend’s show will also benefit students in Monroe County arts programs, fund an award for the Strictly Functional Pottery National, and support other chapter activities.
Again, the Pocono State Craft Festival runs August 22 and 23, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $7 for adults, and free for all children 12 and under to attend.
