There are many ways to take in the holiday lights throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. But Bike Doctor in Frederick, Maryland, is offering a truly wonderful way to experience the magic of the season via a festive bike ride with a cause. It’s their one-of-a-kind Annual Holiday Lights Ride, with this year’s offering slated for Saturday evening.
All are welcome to join in this most merry event, featuring a four-mile bike ride through Downtown Frederick. The ride’s commencement time is at 6 p.m. on December 20, at Baker Park Bandshell. The route will take you through a happy holiday-laden journey, passing the pleasures of lights and other dazzling delights adorning the way. Click here to see the updated map.
What’s even better, though, is that you get to be part of the decked-out ambiance. That’s right, in the spirit of the season, participants are encouraged to adorn their own bikes with lights, garland, and more. Let your creative juices flow, and even consider entering the Best Dressed Bicycle contest while you’re at it! Prizes will, of course, be awarded!
The ride is not a race; rather, it is an all-age, family-friendly endeavor, with every participant maintaining a steady ride-together pace of around six miles per hour. Do take note that helmets are required per safety protocol, as is the minimum of a rear blinking light, owing to the fact that this is an evening ride.
As mentioned previously, the ride serves as a benefit for a worthy cause. That’s why Bike Doctor is asking all participants to donate a gift card to a local business. Suggestions include CVS, Walgreens, Target, Walmart, etc. These donated gift cards are to be used by Hearty House in their ongoing mission to help victims of domestic abuse find safety and comfort this holiday season. An optional after-party will follow the ride at Attaboy Brewery. Food and drinks will be available for purchase as part of the overall celebration.
