Potomac Eagle Scenic has been leading folks on such excursions since officially beginning operations in 1991. The efforts and prep work that went into its inception were already underway two years earlier. It was an initiative to attract people to the region and make use of the tracks of the South Branch Valley Railroad, which had been established in 1978.
Initially, the targeted clientele would be geared toward nature lovers, train enthusiasts, and history buffs. Their anchoring feature has always been about offering premium views and opportunities to spot the American Bald Eagle.
Through the years, a wide range of excursions and experiences have been added to their lofty offerings. As an attraction well-received by folks of all ages and interests, rest assured that whatever you seek, there is an experience just right for you!
Most excursions last around three hours and feature narration along the way. This varies depending on which ride you choose. Each one also comes with its own featured amenities, perks, and guest experiences/offerings themed in accordance with the selected excursion.
Guest seating options start at the Standard Coach level, followed by Standard Dining and then Premium Dining. Following that is Superior Dining and then Club Service.
The regularly scheduled rides they offer include the popular Trough Canyon ride, the Sunset Trough experience, the Green Spring Special, All Day Petersburg, the Holiday Trough, and their seasonal North Pole Express.
