How does attending a good old-fashioned corn roast sound to you? Well, if you happen to be in the vicinity of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, then you’re in luck! You can experience one today, in fact, and be a part of an ongoing tradition spanning more than two decades and still going strong. It’s the 22nd Annual CornFest!
This year’s eagerly anticipated CornFest will commence at 11:30 a.m. today. That’s when they begin dishing out all the delicious food! The featured namesake star of the meal will, of course, be flavorful homegrown roasted sweet corn, cooked to perfection over an applewood fire—the robust old-fashioned way!
Other accompaniments, including sides, meats, and treats, will also be available for folks to create perfect meal pairings in tandem with the featured roasted corn of acclaim. Just be sure to save room for those decadent grilled peach sundaes for dessert!
Festival entertainment will get underway around noon with Chuck Darwin & The Knuckle Draggers on the scene. Enjoy the toe-tapping melodies of a range of “roots music” to complement the country-fried scene at hand, including the styles of bluegrass, blues, country, jug band, string band, and more.
In addition to great music, there will be ongoing games and other activities to keep folks of all ages amused through the day, all the way up to the 4 p.m. conclusion. From regular offerings onsite and in the market to those provided specially as part of this special engagement, CornFest remains a quintessential crowd-pleaser each season, drawing in newbies and loyal returning fans alike, every year.
As always, CornFest will be held on the grounds at Gettysburg’s renowned Historic Round Barn Farm Market. An attraction in and of itself, the Historic Round Barn is one of the outer town’s newer, albeit still antiquated structures, boasting a rich and diverse heritage and history. Built in 1914, it stands today as one of only a few surviving round barns still in existence.
The Round Barn is owned by the Knouse family and Knouse Fruitlands, Inc. With farming roots running nine decades deep and going back four generations, the Knouse family is veritable farming royalty, owning more than 1,200 acres of land throughout Adams, Cumberland, and Franklin Counties. Of their land, 600+ acres are devoted to the growth and production of various apple types. An additional 100 acres are utilized for growing other fruits and vegetables.
This is why the Round Barn’s holdings are always plentiful and well-stocked with so many in-house offerings. And of course, in partnering with vendors and other local producers, their product line keeps operations at the farmer’s market always buzzing, whenever you come in to shop around and visit.
In addition to today’s CornFest, The Historic Round Barn hosts various other events and seasonal happenings onsite throughout the year. They are also a noted special events venue for those looking to host a celebratory gathering in the greater Adams County Area. Up to 225 guests can be accommodated onsite at a single time!
