Mark your calendars for a beloved annual Eastern Shore tradition spanning more than five decades and still going strong! It’s the 52nd Annual Steam and Gas Show in Easton, Maryland.
This year’s event will run from Thursday, July 10, through Sunday, July 13, offering a wealth of weekend wonders and endeavors to delight in. Highlights will, of course, include all the antique farm equipment on display as well as in action, performing demos as part of the grand event.
Stare in awe and be enthralled by the many antique gas engines that are still in such hefty, workable condition, along with hail-and-hardy antique gas tractors, live steam train models, impressive antique car and vehicle restorations, and much more. See wheat thrashing, saw milling, shingle sawing, and blacksmithing all live and in action. There will even be antique tractor pulls on Saturday and Sunday, as part of their eagerly anticipated Annual Show presentation.
Of course, there will be myriad other activities and attractions to check out during the main event. These include crafter and vendor setups offering a broad range of services and displays, delicious food options, tractor games, auctions, and entertaining excitement to entice all ages and interests.
During the Annual Steam and Gas Show, visitors also get to enjoy admission to all the Tuckahoe Museum buildings and collections. These sites include the Steam Engine Displays, Saw Mill, Machine Shop, Rural Life Museum, Railroad, Farm Museum, and the Gas, Gasoline & Oil Engine housing.
In addition to the Annual Steam and Gas Show, the Tuckahoe Steam and Gas Association hosts various other events throughout the year. Some of their other seasonal happenings include a Spring Truck and Tractor Pull, various Antique Tractor Pulls (Delmarva Tractor Pullers Assoc.), the Summer Truck and Tractor Pull (with this year’s installment coming up on July 18), the Fall Harvest Festival in November, and the Shore Good Truck Show also in November. Proceeds from all their family-oriented events go towards sustaining and maintaining all equipment, a crucial step in preventing these artifacts from being lost in history. Funds also benefit educating and motivating the younger generations who will be instrumental in continuing to carry out the Association’s ongoing mission.
Established in 1973, the Tuckahoe Steam and Gas Association is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, entirely volunteer organization founded on the initiative to preserve and protect the rural heritage of the immediate surrounding region. Their commitment, dedication, and devotion to the cause are what initially led to their overarching interest in collecting and restoring all forms of antique agricultural equipment. The Association currently comprises 79 charter members, eight of whom are youth members. They also boast more than 250 active members and 400 associate members. Back in 2011, the Tuckahoe Steam and Gas Association was even the honored recipient of the Talbot County Historical Society’s prestigious “Heritage Award”.
