Many noted venues throughout the Mid-Atlantic region are renowned for being premium fishing destinations. But we don’t often think of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, as one of them. Is fishing in these parts even a thing? Surprisingly, the answer is a resounding “yes.” Just ask the folks of the newly formed Gettysburg Nature Alliance.
The Gettysburg Nature Alliance was established in 2019 with the founding mission to preserve, educate, and rehabilitate Gettysburg’s uniquely rich heritage and history. By extension, this includes protecting its abundant habitat, lush landscapes, and native flora and fauna that flourish here. Because the greater surrounding community of Gettysburg supports such a “compelling combination of heritage and habitat,” it allows for one-of-a-kind engagement opportunities like no other, demonstrating just how the cause for preserving our heritage is directly linked to preserving our habitat as well.
True to their foundational objective of presenting heritage and history preservation practices in tandem with one another, the Gettysburg Nature Alliance actively strives to achieve active real-world impacts by offering several positive activities and opportunities to engage in throughout the year. One such upcoming event they’re hosting this Saturday is their Go Fish, Gettysburg! Tournament.
An annual event now in its second year, Go Fish, Gettysburg! 2025 will occur between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on June 28, at the Barn at Sachs Bridge. In addition to active fishing, the day’s event will feature informative, engaging talks by local watershed enthusiasts about the importance of preserving aquatic habitats and ongoing efforts in the direct vicinity for doing so. Joining the lineup will be Adams County Trout Unlimited, Strawberry Hill Nature Center, and Watershed Alliance of Adams County.

The Gettysburg Nature Alliance owns and operates the Gettysburg Heritage Center. As partners, both the Heritage Center and Gettysburg Nature Alliance thrive by the same foundational mission of preservation through education.
As a result, the Gettysburg Heritage Center hosts a unique share of events and onsite happenings throughout the year. One of their most popular ongoing offerings is the presentation of in-house performances as part of their Night at the Museum, 1863 series. For these, living history interpreters share stories and recount experiences in first-person narrative, acting as townspeople of Gettysburg, who lived here during the Civil War.
