Annual South Mountain Creamery Ice Cream Labs Return with 2025 Sessions!

I have great news for all of you ice cream lovers living in and around Maryland. South Mountain Creamery in Frederick will again lead specially reserved Ice Cream Lab sessions on select dates in February and March.

As a newer annual tradition started by South Mountain Creamery just last year, this is the second time such labs have been offered. So, if you missed getting in on the action last year, or you’re back for more brain freeze for 2025, here’s your chance!

For these ice cream lab sessions, folks are offered a unique and rare opportunity to garner an overview behind-the-scenes look into the intricate ice cream-making process carried out at South Mountain Creamery. CEO, co-owner, and resident ice cream expert Tony Brusco will be your guide, leading you through the various tasks and even endowing you with a couple of their exclusive insider trade secrets along the way.

Blind taste-testing, sensory evaluations, and even a curated ice cream flight all come included as part of the package when you sign up for one of these ongoing ice cream lab presentations. You’ll also learn the ins and outs of how unique ice cream flavors and recipes are developed and discover the importance of pasteurization and how that process works. And most exciting of all, you’ll get to try your hand at developing your very own experimental flavor concoctions!

Upcoming ice cream lab dates this month are on February 5, 6, 12, 13, and 26. Available dates next month are March 12, 13, 19, and 20. The cost to attend each session is $20 a person. All classes take place at 6:30 p.m. on location at South Mountain Ice Cream Shop & Pizza, 50 Citizen’s Way, Ste. 10, 1Frederick, MD 21701.
