Did you know that tomorrow, August 26 is International Dog Day? There’s no shortage of options for celebrating the occasion alongside your best canine companion. One of the most fitting ways I’ve found, particularly for folks in and around the greater Annapolis, Maryland region is to attend the Anne Arundel County SPCA’s annual Puppy Plunge.
This year’s event will be held today, August 25, at Camp Letts in Edgewater from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The day promises a profuse array of awesome activities and endeavors for both doggies and their attending humans.
Featured fur-baby delights include plunges into the Rhode River, of course, along with many other dog-specific delights to last the day. There will even be dog-exclusive concessions and cuisine options available from Rock’s Canine Cantina—a food truck just for dogs!
If your pooch still hasn’t gotten his or her fill, note that the annual Pie Eating Contest returns for this year’s Puppy Plunge. The contest will begin at 12:30 p.m. and is open to small dogs and large ones alike. Sign-up will be onsite this year starting at 11 a.m. There is a $10 donation fee per participating pup. Even though this event is for the dogs, so to speak, human attendees are guaranteed to have just as great a time as their canine companions. People-pleasing activities and delights to drive the event will include live music, face painting, vendors, merchandise, a tantalizing tiki bar, and a variety of food trucks dishing out delightful alternatives to the aforementioned doggie delights.
Admission to Puppy Plunge 2024 costs $10 a car, which you will pay at the gate. All of the proceeds raised during the event support the Anne Arundel SPCA and the exceptional work they are committed to.
