In a previous post, I mentioned all those Hidden Beaches You Never Knew About in West Virginia. Since yesterday was National Water Park Day and we are smack dab in the middle of the summer swim season, I think it would be most befitting to review some of the state’s best water park destinations as a follow-up. Let it be known, however, that there are many to pick and choose from, as well as those in other surrounding Mid-Atlantic states, like Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, and Pennsylvania. But in keeping things local, I’ve narrowed it down to seven sensational water parks in West Virginia.
Ace Adventure Water Park
Onsite of Ace Adventure Resort in Fayette County, water park visitors here can fully embrace a wide range of aquatic endeavors along this scenic spring-fed lake. Features include two 40-foot-tall waterslides, two zip lines, a 25-foot climbing mountain, an obstacle course, giant spinning “Saturn Balls”, and 50 interactive inflatables.

Bearfoot Springs Water Park
The next big thing at Big Bear Lake Campgrounds, this still-young water park can be found onsite at Yukon Circle—also home to many of Bear Lake’s other major recreational attractions. The featured highlights to be experienced at Bearfoot Springs Water Park include two 350-foot water slides, a children’s splash area with ongoing bucket dumps, and a lazy river tube ride. Do note that access to the water park is exclusive to Big Bear Lake property owners, their guests, and overnight visitors staying at Beaver Creek Village.

Clarksburg Splash Zone
More than just an awesome neighborhood pool, Clarksburg Splash Zone delivers plentiful watery recreations all in one convenient spot. Among the featured highlights, you can enjoy here are five slides, a lazy river, a lap pool, and a recently renovated play area for children. They also offer “River Walk” events and swimming lessons. Because the Clarksburg Splash Zone is part of Veteran’s Memorial Park, coming here also garners you access to other park features and facilities.

JayDee’s Family Fun Center
The ultimate family-friendly summertime destination awaits in the scenic heart of Berkeley County. It’s JayDee’s Family Fun Center—your all-in-one recreational and entertainment center boasting plenty of pleasing pastime possibilities. Among these, is their private waterpark, featuring various water slides, kid-friendly play areas, a splash pad, and other poolside pleasantries.

Pipestem Resort State Park Adventure Lake and Splash Park
The water-based wonders here aren’t limited to your typical poolside recreational setup. Between Pipestem Adventure Lake and its featured Splash Park with a kids’ zone, you get to enjoy a vast array of water-based let-loose fun. Highlights include 18 different spraying, dumping, and other water installations, 12 gigantic inflatable mountains to climb, trampolines, and plentiful other onsite surrounding recreations to make this your premier getaway summer destination.

Water Ways
Located in Julian in Boone County, Water Ways Waterpark and Amphitheater has earned a reputation for being the best water park in southern West Virginia. Onsite features include five slides (two of which are body slides and one that operates as a tube slide), a lazy river, a special Kiddy Island poolside play area, and more. The site is also home to a walking trail, sheltered picnic areas, a gift shop, and a Junior Olympic-sized pool.

Waves of Fun
With the pun fully intended, Waves of Fun in Hurricane is an excellent go-to watery recreational delight where you can make “waves of fun” all summer. Onsite features here include a massive wave pool boasting up to three-foot waves, water tubes, slides, and an array of other onsite recreations as part of Valley Park’s offerings. They also offer swim lessons.

Again, there are many other water parks and noted swimming destinations to explore throughout the state of West Virginia. These are just a few options to consider, but I encourage you to get out and explore all the other watery wonders waiting in the wings as well.
