Irvine Nature Center in Owings Mills, Maryland is a wonderful place to explore any time of year. Nestled deep within the Caves Valley Historic District, the pristine property comprising Irvine spans 210 acres of land and includes wetlands, forest, meadow, farmland, and even the headwaters of both the Jones Falls and Gwynns Falls watersheds.
A versatile 17,200-square-foot facility that sits on the grounds is home to several notable featured exhibits and also serves as the central hub for so many onsite happenings. And there are certainly many of those taking place at any given time, from special events to hands-on activities and much, much more.
Given the multitude of offerings Irvine Nature Center is known for, the general $5 admission fee for all (non-member) persons ages 6 and up seems more than reasonable. Even so, you may be interested to know that now through March 29, admission is free any Friday you visit. Made possible through a grant from the Orokawa Foundation, FREE FRIDAYS at Irvine are part of an ongoing initiative to connect people of all ages and interests with nature by increasing access via no admission on a designated day.
As I said before, there’s just so much to see, do, and explore at Irvine. From eight miles of hiking trails to onsite animal exhibits (including eight resident raptors in the Aviary), an Outdoor Classroom setup to an impressive Native American Site, having the opportunity to come out and enjoy it all for free is more than worth it.
In addition to all the regular callouts to take in on any visit, Irvine Nature Center is known for offering various programs and events at designated dates and times. These include everything from adult programs to those designed for homeschooling and preschool groups, and much, much more. Some of the most highly anticipated upcoming events for January 2024 include Tales & Tails Storytime (the next one taking place on January 12), the Herbal Workshop for Winter Wellness (on January 13), the Irvine After Dark: Pajama Party (on January 13), ongoing Qigong & Tai Chi Winter Sessions (the next one on January 14), and various family-fun planned outings. Do note that separate pricing applies to certain activities and events.
